Description

The Government, with a decree approved by the Council of Ministers on June 16, 2026, extended the validity of paper identity cards, exceeding the August 3, 2026, deadline set by EU Regulation 1157/2019. Please note that paper documents that have not yet expired will remain valid until their natural expiration, even after August 3, 2026, for all relationships with the Public Administration and public service providers.

Please note the limitations : as specified by the Ministry of the Interior, the validity is confirmed only for certain purposes and in relationships with the Public Administration and with entities providing public services.

The extension protects citizens in their dealings with public offices and prevents the disruption of essential services. However, it is important to note that paper documents will no longer be accepted for travel abroad starting August 3, 2026 , as required by EU Regulation 1157/2019. Travel requires a CIE (Certificate of Inclusion) or a passport.

Pending the upcoming activation of other CIE offices, we inform you that it will be possible to make reservations for the issuance of documents as per the instructions below:

  • in presence
  • phone

Interested parties can schedule an appointment, exclusively on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9:00 to 11:00, by contacting the office on the first floor in person, or by calling the following mobile number during the hours indicated above: 3669334244. There is no text message or answering service available for callbacks.

The office is open to the public by reservation only on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to 12:15 pm, and on Thursday afternoons from 4:00 pm to 5:15 pm. Please bring all necessary documentation (recent passport photo, payment receipt, expired ID, or a copy of the report in case of loss). The maximum delay allowed is 10 minutes. Absences will require a new reservation. For reasons beyond the organization's control (e.g., unexpected absences of staff due to health reasons, etc.), the service may be subject to change or postponement.
