Description

July 19th is never just any date for those who believe in the values of legality and justice. This year, thirty-four years after the Via d'Amelio massacre, the City of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto He chose to pause to remember the sacrifice of Judge Paolo Borsellino and his security detail, but also to send a strong, unanimous message rooted in the present.

The event, meaningfully titled "Beyond Duty," will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 19:00 PM, in the splendid setting of Villa Primo Levi. It will be a moment of active remembrance, designed to reflect on a warning that Borsellino himself left us: the unforgivable mistake of delegating the fight against the Mafia solely to the judiciary and the relevant institutions, forgetting that change starts from the bottom, from the conscience of each of us.

Precisely for this reason, the Municipal Administration wanted this day to also be an opportunity to express a concrete "thank you" to those who, every day, protect our territory on the front lines. During the event, official awards will be presented to law enforcement officers and local justice agencies. A symbolic yet deeply heartfelt gesture, to recognize the dedication, courage, and spirit of sacrifice of the women and men who work behind the scenes every day to ensure our safety.
However, legality cannot be sustained by uniforms alone; it requires the support of the entire community. This event aims to be a powerful reminder and recognition of the fundamental role that local associations and parishes play every day in neighborhoods. It is these organizations, with their silent and widespread work of education, reception, and inclusion, that represent the first and most important barrier against social marginalization and illegality.

The beating heart of this journey is, and must be, young people. The evening's greatest appeal is addressed to them: to take up the baton of memory and transform it into active citizenship, becoming the true protagonists of the future of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto.

The mayor and the entire Administration warmly invite all citizens, families, young people, parish groups, and all local associations to attend in large numbers. Being present at Villa Primo Levi means demonstrating, together, that memory is not a simple exercise in the past, but a living commitment that is cultivated every day through participation and solidarity.
